“The artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work.” — Emile Zola

The Studio

The studio at Zoute River Garden Farm is a private workspace set within the grounds of the homestead. It is light‑filled, with warm wooden floors, and looks out onto a courtyard and an enclosed garden under the trees. Birds move through the branches, and occasionally a resident cat passes by, with the space designed in a minimal way that keeps it in line with the quiet character of the rest of the property.

The studio is used for writing, drawing, research, and other forms of independent creative work. It is simple and functional — a place for developing ideas or days of deep work. The studio is not a public venue and not open for general visits. It exists to support slow, uninterrupted work in a calm environment.

If you’d like to enquire about studio use as part of a residency, you’re welcome to get in touch.

““I have an idea that the only thing which makes it possible to regard this world we live in without disgust is the beauty which now and then men create out of the chaos. The pictures they paint, the music they compose, the books they write, and the lives they lead. Of all these the richest in beauty is the beautiful life. That is the perfect work of art.” — W. Somerset Maugham
