A working homestead in Hopefield

Zoute River Garden Farm is a quiet working homestead in Hopefield, South Africa. It is shaped by the seasons and the discipline of daily work.

Our garden farm produces vegetables, herbs, and flowers. The studio offers a quiet workspace for self‑directed creative practice. From time to time, we host short residencies for writers, artists, and others who need uninterrupted time for meaningful work.

The homestead sits on Church Street, further down the river in a quiet rural setting within walking distance of town. Hopefield itself is centrally located on the West Coast — a landscape of wide skies, slow days, and a gentle rhythm.

Zoute River is not a guesthouse or a retreat. It is a private working environment. The homestead holds a garden farm, a studio, and two self‑contained living spaces for residents. People come here for quiet, for focus, and for the simple structure of a place that supports independent work.

If you’d like to enquire about a residency or learn more about the homestead, you’re welcome to get in touch.
